FAQs

Q: What can I expect in our initial session?
The initial meeting is an opportunity for you to get to know me and whether you would be happy working with me. For me, the ‘therapeutic relationship’ is key in supporting you with making positive change, so it is really important to get the right fit for you.

It is also a chance for me to find out more about what has brought you to counselling and what your hopes are for our time together.

There is no obligation to make an immediate decision, and the next steps are in your hands.

Q: How many sessions do I need?
We can all find ourselves looking for support outside of our immediate circles for a whole host of reasons and at different stages of our lives. I wish that everyone could have the chance to have time to reflect and re-assess their inner world alongside someone trained to listen; to explore thoughts and feelings and to gain a better understanding of themselves.

For some people in their unique set of circumstances – a short amount of sessions can make a great impact and for others it may take more time. We can have regular reviews to suit the length of our time together to make sure you are getting what you require from the sessions.

Q: If I choose ‘Walk and Talk’/Outdoor therapy what do I need to bear in mind?
If this type of counselling setting sounds like a good match for you I ask that we precede with one initial session indoors to discuss our contract and specific requirement – for example we will decide on a route, terrain and pace that suits you.

We can agree if there are any weather conditions you would not be happy walking in and what method we would swap to. We can also work out any scenarios that we need to prepare for – for example – if either of us happen to pass or see someone we know, if and when we encounter enthusiastic dogs or what to do if you feel the need to sit/rest at times.

Q: What if I need to cancel, or I miss a session?
I ask that you provide 7 days’ notice if you wish to cancel a session at no cost or receive a refund. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice you will incur a £25 cancellation fee. If you need to cancel I will try my best to transfer your booking to a different time and date wherever possible. All missed sessions will be charged in full.

If you are taking holiday longer than 2 weeks, payment in advance is required if you wish to retain the same date/time slot of your ongoing sessions, otherwise it may be made available to other clients.
